Reading through the threads, I notice that several of you here either have a CPT from more than one place or are in the process of earning an additional one. What's the purpose for doing this?

TIA

Speaking for myself...I earned my ACE as an entry level cert...this is back in 1999, however, I think the cert carries more merit. When I joined the staff of a particular gym, I was required to become NASM certified. Once I took that certification, I was hooked on their teachings and later pursued their PES certification. I earned a certification from NESTA for "ha-ha's", although I consider it relative to ACE. I think having multiple certs is good for a resume, and shows that you take your continuing education seriously. Mine have been spread over 6 or so years...there are some trainers that obtain multiple certs in less than a year. Again, I think it adds weight to your resume, but nothing is heavier than experience.

Hey Tia,

I know for me personally it was a challenge to better my knowledge and skills.

When I first got the ACE PT Certification, it was one of the most recognized in the country. But the more I trained, the more I realized that there were other training methods/issues that the ACE certification didn't cover.

So I went for the NSCA CPT Exam. Which, was a little tougher, but not impossible.

Different certification agencies, while the "BULK" of the cert is the same, focus on a slightly different aspect of fitness.

I'm sure John, Christina or Jeff will elaborate more.

Good Luck!
Dave

Okay, so multiple PT certifications is a way to beef up a resume and to promote yourself as a dedicated trainer ... can't go wrong with that.

Thanks, fellas!

Yup you pretty much nailed it - certs are not very difficult or expensive to get, but in the minds of potential clients they look like a huge body of qualifications, especially if you've go into a little detail on your webpage about the advantages of each one -

Here - check out Jessica Storm's certs page -

Tell me that doesn't look impressive, even though all together they probably required as much study as any major college science course -

Just checked Jessica Storm's certs...I thought it was weird but I believe you need to be a NASM-CPT before you can be a NASM-CES. For some reason its not listed.
