What kinds of things do you do to set yourself apart from other personal trainers? None of my ideas are novel, but here are a few things that I'm thinking about doing:

1) Target brides and bridal parties. Although I'm not a big fan of online training, I could extend my services to the bride's wedding party and offer everyone a price break.
2) Implement a program such as Stroller Strides since I will be living in an area where there are lots of moms and babies.
3) Partner with a local dietitan and offer his/her services as part of one of my training packages. This would obviously be beneficial to special populations such as the morbidly obese.

What are some of the things you do to set yourself apart from the competition?

I"m trying really hard to differentiate myself by:

1) Getting people to stop buying useless supplements
2) Get women to lift weights more often and aerobicize less
and
3) Get people to stop beating themselves up over the number on the scale. And explaining why the scale isn't the greatest measure of fitness.

I have an interest in post physical therapy training. I'm actually preparing to graduate school to become a physical therapy assistant. I want to know if there is alot of business with linking the two together. I train now in a golds gym, but have had trouble really growing my clientel. Any help or suggestions on how to increase my clientel? I want to get a referal network started in my area to increase my prospects but don't really know how.

I think a good way to differentiate yourself is to find a niche.

My husband chose Sports Performance Enhancement as he already has a credential in it through NASM. He is making it even more specialized by training specifically for road races/ private high school students.

To get himself out there he is planning on writing articles and submitting them, offering information or track camps to coaches pre-season, running marathons and doing well to network (he is very talented), and possibly offering free services to a local team training for a marathon for a good cause.

Yeah, I agree - this is all about finding a specialty, which is vital for any personal trainer - I recently wrote an article for the PFP Newsletter about this, which you can find here:
