    Default Hola from GA

    Hello Forum
Wanted to introduce myself. I am in Savannah, GA. Just recently got out of the Army but still working for them. I found this forum in my research for becoming a PT. I have always been interested in the field and kept myself in some sort of shape. I am currently studying for the ACSM. The posts here are very helpfull and I wanted to thank all the contributors. Looking to start my own PT business from my own studio/home somewhere around Mar-Apr. After many years working in the healthcare field I have seen the need for more health instead of more medicine. We all as Fitness professionals have a responsibility and can contribute to the well being of our nation. Is not only about "looking good", is about been healthy and live a productive life.
Keep up the great work.. will be seeing you around! 8)

Hi Yan and welcome to the forum! You make some really good points and you will be a great addition to this profession.

We all as Fitness professionals have a responsibility and can contribute to the well being of our nation. Is not only about "looking good", is about been healthy and live a productive life.
Isn't it ironic that most folks are too lazy to go for a 30 minute walk, yet they will endure years of joint pain from being overweight? Doesn't make much sense. My gripe is also with physicians and nurses and others in the healthcare industry. How many doctors do you know who are overweight? I have seen and met quite a few! These people know better!!! I believe the ACSM has stated that the number one most influential person when it comes to beginning an exercise program is an individual's physician. Wow. The cure for the obesity problem in this country needs to begin with the healthcare industry. Period.

As far as I'm concerned, looking good should be our second priority. Our number one priority should be our health. Forget six pack abs! Most people can't even get up from the toilet these days!

Sorry for the rant. Anyway, welcome!

    Hi Yan,

I feel the same way about it as you do! People can spend way less money and have such healthier lives if they would exercise more and use less medication!

I have known way too many nurses who are on disability themselves or are morbidly obese because they would rather use medication than live a healthier lifestyle. One nurse I know used to say "Better living through modern chemistry..." all the time! Imagine, he just found out he's diabetic.

I have a very good friend who is a pharmaceutical rep. She goes to dr.'s offices and pushes the drugs she represents. She gets pay bonuses if prescriptions for her drugs go up in her territory.

It's very sad that the drug companies have so much more power over people's lives than the thought of living a more active and healthier lifestyle. What people don't realize is how many more complications and conditions they get from the medications they take, rather than minimizing the conditions they have with exercise and being able to take fewer prescriptions in their lives.

Well, good luck in your certification and starting your business! I'm new here too and just finishing up a cert. and looking to start training people REALLY soon! Hope to have many good discussions with you and other's on this forum!
