I'm currently building an online food diary tool. Now that I'm almost done with it I realized that maybe I should talk to someone and find out if this is something people will actually use ;)

The tool is an online application that lets people keep a daily food diary.

You log in, enter your meal(s) for the day and other stuff such as your weight, calories, protein, etc. You can also go back through your days and view previous meals to track your progress.

The other more useful (I think...) feature is that it gives you the opportunity to create Groups. You can create as many groups as you want, and invite as many different people to each group as you want.

The group then has an area to post messages (of encouragement maybe) comment on other group member's daily meals, and the group leader has the ability to post announcements.

My first idea was this was a great way for friends or co-workers to encourage each other to stick to a diet, but I've come to realize that this may be something that Nutritionist or personal trainers could use for their clients.

So do you think this is something that may be valuable to anyone? Can you shoot holes in this idea? Constructive criticism or feature ideas would be much appreciated!

Speaking of sites like these.

Does anyone know what's going on with fittogether.net?

They had an awesome body comp monitor that took 15 circumference measures, your height, weight and age and estimated your body fat.

It's been down for over a week and now.

I do circumference measures at my corporate site for my members who are uncomfortable with the calipers and used www.fittogether.net to get the calculations. Now I have no place to find out the calculations. Sad

Any helpful info would be appreciated.

I've been using FitDay to manage my calorie balance and nutrition for forever now. It is an awesome tool. If you haven't checked out the PC version that you buy for $20 and install on your PC, it's a little more powerful and easier to use than the web version (at the loss of the "portability" of the web version). The PC version has a lot more options for activity logging and calorie balance as well.

I think tools like this are fantastic, and FitDay.com is the best I've seen so far.

I agree, fitday is a great tool.
And it's along the same lines, but the focus of my idea is more on a Group setting instead of just for an individual.

I originally thought it might be something friends or co-workers might use, but thought that it might be useful for personal trainers or nutritionists to set up groups for their clients to help monitor their daily meals and how they're doing.

Plus the ability to comment on a person's intake that day to provide encouragement or tips would be pretty helpful as well.
