Default Just got CPT book and now I am worried

I have recently (August) have committed myself to bringing fitness back into my life. I have always lifted weights but never have studied nutrition and other aspects of the body. I have developed a passion for fitness and am considering taking the NSCA CPT Exam. I have a full time career LE, and was just interested in maybe branching out part time and helping any other fellow LE officers and others that want to get fit.

I have no formal education in kinesiology or exercise physiology. I have a degree an Accounting. Well I began reading the first chapter on Muscular and Skeletal systems, and quite frankly I was not prepared for the in depth coverage of this area. Am I in over my head? How in depth is this topic covered on the test ? I want to learn everything and I am in no rush to take exam. I am willing to go slow, so I can understand everything but got a little afraid reading the first chapter.

Am I alone or is this normal for those with no exercise science background.

Thanks for having me here, and I look forward to learning from all of you.

Hi and welcome. Your post made me chuckle because I felt the exact same way when I first opened the NSCA book. I guess I was expecting something a whole lot easier. You will need to know some of chapter one for the exam so don't skip right over it. I remember the ACSM exam had more physiology questions on it than the NSCA exam. However, the NSCA exam had more questions about anatomy and the muscles involved in various exercises.

You will do fine. It can be a little overwhelming at first but you are going to learn a ton.

    Hope this helps.

    Christina,

Thanks for the replies. What I am doing is reading a few pages and then going back and writing flash cards on things I believe are important. I am doing flash cards on power point and then I will be able to review them in a slide show presentation,

Now I need to figure out how to send them to Microsoft Word just in case I want to print them as flash cards.

Would you mind if I pick your brain on some things regarding the test and other fitness and nutrition questions I may have.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Sure no problem. I took the test several years ago so unfortunately I probably won't be much help in that area.
