Default Can anyone Answer This? NSCA - CPT Material

I was searching the internet for help and came across this website. It look's like a very informative and cool site. I'm hoping some can help me answer my question. In March of 2005 I had purchased the NSCA - CPT materials that consisted of the following items below. Due to a sudden illness and surgery for cancer I did not begin the course and it is still in it's original package.

My question to anyone is I would like to get into Personal Training and was wondering if these materials I have mentioned below are still current and or up to date? Can someone verify this or compare them with any of your materials? Is there any other materials that I would need? If so what would I have to replace from the list below to study for the exam? I contacted NSCA and they stated I would have to purchase and replace them with new study materials. I did check with Border's book store & Barnes & Noble and according to them they see the same NSCA's textbook as current from the same publisher. Can anyone answer this question? Thank you!

    Hi there,

The book is the same. Aside from the practice exam(s), I personally did not find any of the other items particularly useful. The NSCA wants to make money so I would expect them to tell you that you need to purchase new study materials.

Here is what I would use (and did use) to pass the test:
    1) The text.
    2) A newer book called Exercise Technique Manual for Resistance Training, Second Edition. (This is in place of Free Weight and Machine Exercise Techniques - DVD) You can probably buy this book at Borders or Barnes and Noble. I think that's where I got mine.
    3) Possibly a current practice exam. (I'm sure your old practice exams will work as well.)

The NSCA's teachings have not changed that much (if at all) over the past 4 years. Use your old material to study. I do recommend that you buy Exercise Technique Manual for Resistance Training, Second Edition.

    Good luck!
