Default NSCA study material text book(s) question:

    Hi Everyone,

I recently decided to embark on a new career after twenty years in law enforcement. Hence, I'm here seeking some information on what I intend to be my new adventure in life. I've read some or most of the posts regarding the NSCA-CPT study materials but individual views do vary.

I purchased the text book, Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning, 3rd Edition but I'm really not sure if this would be the only text I'll need. Some posters have indicated the NSCA book, Essentials of Personal Training is the only recommended text book for test preparation. I have no issue with purchasing the materials necessary to help ensure a passing grade but I also don't want to read a 600 page text book that may not be necessary.

Background: I do possess a college degree but it is not in any health related field (Criminal Justice). However, I do consider myself myself much more knowledgeable than your typical gym rat. I'm simply looking for some insight on the most essential reading materials so I can make efficient use of my available study time.

P.S. I will purchase all of the practice exams.

TomRiz, I am in the same boat. I have been in LE for over 20 yrs also and looking to do something on the side. I am taking the CPT test next month. I would say if you have general knowlege like you have stated, the Essentaials book and the practice test will suffice. Good luck.
