Default Newbie studying for NSCA cpt! Duration of study time?

    Hello all!!

I'm a newbie in Seattle studying for the NSCA CPT exam. Just got my books in and would love to accurately determine the duration of time I'll need to study for this exam in order to be fully prepared. I know the website (nsca-lift.org) says that study/ prep time takes anywhere from 3-9 months depending on the individual.

Nine months seems a bit on the long side & I tend to get through material pretty quickly, but I definitely want to make sure I am not underestimating the difficulty of the exam. I just want to get a feel for how long it has taken the people on here to study adequately for the test. Any feedback, suggestions, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Am also wondering what the importance of learning specific details vs. general concepts when it comes to this particular certification. Is one greater emphasis placed on one more than the other when it comes to the test?

    Thank you again!!

    Jane

    Hi Jane and welcome!

Please give us a little background info about you. Do you have an exercise science degree? Are you already training?

How long it will take you to prepare will depend on your education/experience.

    Default education/ experience

    Thanks Christina!

I'm actually not an exercise science major. I'm English major (odd, I know), but also a former international level athlete with extensive weight-lifting, cardiovascular, fitness training.

Just took the practice exam, to see where I stood prior to study, and scored an 80% on the 50-question Vol 1. version of the test. Hopefully, this is a good sign (I've only just begun tackling the first chapter!)

So in a nutshell, I'm a university grad with a bachelor's degree. Quick learner with good study habits. Former hardcore, diehard athlete with lots of hands-on training experience.

Jane, you will do just fine! Study for a month, take another practice exam and then go for it.
