    Default Help with remembering movements

    Does anyone have a good tip on remembering the differences between isometric, concentric and eccentric movements? Passive verses active?

    Christina you previously gave a good one for hand grips so I thought you might have a special one for these.

    Default This may help

    eccentric - E for easy, it is easy to lower a weight. Muscles are stronger eccentrically than they are concentrically.
    isometric - sounds like ice which is frozen, isometric lifts are frozen or fixed. You are pushing against an immovable object or holding a load in a static position.

    I do not have one for concentric but it is the only one left so that may be enough.


    Passive verses active
    A passive stretch reminds me of a passive person, they allow things done to them. So a passive stretch is done with a partner, gravity,or a machine. Your muscles are passive or relaxed allowing an external force to stretch them.

    For active stretching as the name implies you are active, you apply the fore to perform the stretch.

    Thanks so much jparis. Those are helpful tips in remembering. I definitely like the ICE for isometric.

    Its funny how these lil cues go along way in helping to retain information.
