    Hey MtCoco,

Typically these are the reference numbers for the article or study that the factual information came from in that paragraph.

If you look at the end of the chapter, or at the end of the book, there should be a list of references where you can find the actual study or article that the information came from.

Reading or researching the referenced article or study isn't necessary to do well on the exam, but it may help increase your knowledge.

    Good Luck!

    Hi Mtcoco
yes they are the reference numbers. if you look in the back you see where they apply to. the NSCA books have the references broken down into chapters in the back. thats why you may see the same # to more than one reference.

as to your other question, do know the gross overview of the systems. when I took the NSCA-CPT test there was not much on the micro structure of the systems. rather they focused on the day to day stuff, what you would run into when you were working with a person. nevertheless, its important to have an understanding of how the system works so you can answer basic questions about it. in addition to reading the book I highly suggest that you get the NSCA-CPT Practice tests. I believe they come in a pack of 4 now (it was just one when I took it). these were very good. they told me if I would pass, how much I would pass the test by and if it said I failed, it referred me to the corresponding chapters that I was weak in. Thats the best advice I can give anyone taking the NSCA exams.
let me know if you have any other questions and Ill be glad to help

    Default Mahalo! Joe.

Hi Joe & everyone! thank you for great advices!! well I just found out other PT cert I passed so now I am really ready to study for NSCA-PTC exam. I took practice exam 3 days ago (volume 1) and I knew that I need to study more programing part.
other cert I got they were more focused on assessment and stuff. that was main reason I want to study NSCA-PTC. so this is great challenge for me.
I'll focus on these that you said.
    Thank you .
