Default Question about the NSCA CPT exam

How much of the test revolves around the biomechanical section? I know its at the core of what we do, just wondering how indepth I need to STUDY the info...obviously its important to know.

    Thanks,

    Jackson

    Hi Jackson,

Keep in mind that there are roughly 140 questions on the exam and the book is a few hundred pages. Do not get wrapped up in every little detail. Know generalities.

I have a feeling you are extremely detail oriented!

    Default Good point

Thanks Christina for making that point. I think the difficulty lies in the fact that there is so much info and only 140 questions - its like ok, what could the questions possibly be based on such a huge amount of information.

Ive been working with a study partner and we seem to be moving forward. Im so grateful for everyone's help. Right now we're focusing on the smaller percentage portion of the exam so that we can focus a greater amount of weeks on the portions that account for 70 % of the test (Exercise Technique & Program Planning).

Ive been answering the questions at the end of the chapters and taking the quizes from the Symposium cd's and averaging 80% - I hope that means I should do pretty well.

    Any more pointers Christina?

    Thanks,

    Jackson

    Hey Jackson,

Sounds like you are on track. Study partners always help.

I don't know if your study partner is virtual or in person, but you guys should create online quizzes for one another. Check out these sites:

    http://www.classmarker.com/
    http://www.proprofs.com/quiz-school/

You could also create flash cards for one another:
    http://www.proprofs.com/flashcards/

Also, did you see the post regarding free personal trainer certification study aids?

Some of the sites I listed will make some of the topics you are studying easier to understand.

    Hope this helps.

    Default Thanks Christina & Dave

    Ok, Christina youre the best!
I just finished meeting with my study partner and we're going to give each other a test/quiz at the start of our next meeting on the three areas we've covered so far - this quiz maker link comes right on time!

Im glad I found this forum, you all have been so helpful!

    Thanks Christina and & Dave!

    Default Description Content Book

BTW just wanted you all to know Im such a doofus. Ive been asking how on earth can I decipher whats going to be on a 140 question test with a book thats over 600 pages plus lectures etc?

UMMMM. Jackson try looking at the NSCA Descrition Content Booklet. Ive had this in my possession and just glanced over it - well I decided to READ it a few days ago and what do you know it tells you, just short of the questions, what the questions will based around. I cant believe what a simpleton I was.

Now I feel more at ease and can better manage my study time.

Just wondering what did everyone else score on the exam? A friend I made from Bulgaria got a perfect score of 100. I was impressed.

Sounds like you're really starting to make progress, Jackson. What date are you shooting for? I can't remember.

100 on the exam? That IS impressive.

    Default NSCA-CPT

    Hi Christina!

Im shooting for some time before Thanksgiving. I am actually going to sit down some time this week or next and look at a calendar and a computerized testing location and settle on a specific date and then register for it. This way I think I will be more accountable to my studies - not that Ive been slacking or anything.

Im getting into Program Design and its a lot of information. I was telling a friend last night I see why Trainers are worth their $ if they really do what theyre supposed to. Unfortunately so many that I know just give a general workout to everyone they come across and wonder why the client sees no real change and therefore leaves. Its so important to me to keep the "Personal" in personal trainer.

This certification isnt where I want to end up. I want to move move on to Life Coaching and ultimately run some sort of wellness facility that offers something for every aspect of the human person. Im looking into E-books too. Who knows. But one step at a time and that step right now is passing this CPT exam

Thanks for keeping a steady interest on my track.

BTW, what did you score on your exam?

    Hi Jackson,

Sounds like you have a great plan. I believe Margie (who posts under megfit) is a life coach as well. If you have any questions regarding this subject post them and I am sure she will be kind enough to answer them.

Check out this thread out this thread on life, fitness, and wellness coaching certifications. (Scroll down and you will find some links to reputable organizations.) I am working on my fitness coaching certification through Wellcoaches.

As far as the exam is concerned I scored somewhere between passing and perfect.

    Default Life Coach Training

Thanks Christina for your input. I hope to fair as well as you did if not hit perfect on the CPT exam. One can only hope, right?

I was wondering if anyone out there has heard of Marion Franklin who is the coach who teaches at lifecoachinggroups.com If so, any feedback on her program? I really need to make a decision by tonight on this program and would love some input. sorry my request has come so late.

    Best,

    Jackson
