Hi,

I live in a small town with one athletic club. I just talked to the owner of the club and he will let me train there independently for a 25%/75? split. He wouldget the 25%. Does that sound reasonable? THe tough part is that since it is a small town I can't charge huge rates to make it more lucrative. At that rate, if I charge what our only other trainer dcharges, I would make $15 per sesssion! That just seems ridiculous to me, when I look at it that way. I am thinking of trying to barter with a him a little or something. Any advice?

I think it is a pretty fair split. Most gyms want the reverse! LOL Smile 75% going to the gym and giving you 25%!!

Raise your rate to $25 or $30 a session.

Remember you are going to win people over because of the tie-in with your dance career. Dance TV shows and exercise programs are HOT HOT HOT!! So you know more about that stuff than "THE OTHER" trainer.

Zumba, Core Rhythms, Sweating With The Oldies. People love fun stuff like that! You've got the perfect knowledge to train small groups of 4 to 6 people and charge them what the other trainer is charging in a group setting.

If they want you one on one, then it's $25 or $30 a session.

Dance, Dance, Dance!!

Livy, on a side note, get into semi private training. The people in your small town may not be able to afford a private session but they probably could afford a semi private session. You'll make more, your clients will spend less. Something you should definitely consider.

Thanks for the advice. I actually ended up working it out so that I am teaching one class per week free, and in turn can have access to the gym.

I haev a question though. what is semi-personal' training?

I will definately try to incorporate the dance. It is fun, I'll have to work that in somehow. Thanks!

"Semi-Personal" or "Semi-Private" is just new jargon for "Group" training. (More than 1 person being trained at a time).

I guess a lot of people get turned off with the word "Group" (As in Group Exercise, Group Think, Group s*x LOL Smile ) So they've changed the verbiage.

I'm sure you're going to be a great success! Popcorn

Let us know how it goes!

With my group trainers (semi-private) I split it 50/50... We charge $49 per workout each person for groups of 6 people. The trainers are happy and I'm happy

For in-home we charge $79 and I split it 2/3 trainer and 1/3 for me
