Default Newbie looking for some advice on breaking into the business

    Hello All,

I am new to the site and looking for some advice on getting into the Personal Training Industry. This is a step I've been thinking about taking for a few years now and I think I'm finally ready to put the plan in motion. Any advice is greatly appreciated! My most important questions are concerning certifications and the best way to obtain them. A college in my area offers an Exercise Science Certificate Program as well as an Associates Degree in the field. Is it worth while to get educated in the field in this way? Or would I be wasting my time and money if there is a better way out there? Any advice at all for a total green pea would be awesome!

    Thanks again!

    Hi Chris --

    Welcome to the forum!

First and foremost, I would determine what kind of career you want. There are the basic certifications for personal training and more advanced certifications to work in clinical settings. If you are interested in research or working at a university or college, then you might consider a degree. Depending on which way you want to go, I would do as much research about that career path as you can to determine if it is for you. I would also encourage you to set up some information interviews with folks in that field to ask what kind of schooling is required and what their daily work is like.

    Good luck!

This used to be such an awesome spam-free forum.
