    Default WITS training

I am an MD with Graduate training in Biochemistry. I have been watching with interest as my wife goes through the WITS course at our local community college. I have been impressed with the course material and the depth and intensity of the didactic sessions. The course is short but intense. It seems to me that it represents a good foundation upon which to build a career. She has not completed the internship yet, but already has a job offer from a well respected local facility. There seems to be no lack of internship opportunities in our area.

It definitely is a good class. They cover a lot in a short amount of time. I never did the internship and I doubt I'll pursue a career in fitness at this point, but I'm glad I took the class. I learned a lot that I use in my every day life.

    Default WITS

I noticed that most of the posts are somewhat dated, and decided to add my 2 cents because I just completed The WITS exam portions and am beginning my internship. I was impressed with the challenge of the course - the text is excellent, albeit at times I thought they missed their audience and were writing to other PhDs. The program I went through was 5 Saturdays - the morning in the classroom and the afternoon in the gym. The exam was two parts - 100 multiple choice questions and a practical exam of assessments, exercise and stretching. I have now signed up for ACSM exam and ordered their books. It will be a good comparison. It will not surprise me to see WITS "climb the ladder" to be help in higher esteem by the fitness community. Their program deserves it.

When I took the class, the instructor said the text was really geared towards people who were going for a masters or higher in exercise science which is one reason there were some chapters we did not cover. I believe the text has some connection to ACSM so you should be well-prepared for their exam.

:thanks: Pookie... for your feedback. That makes sense. But I'm now reading the text for the ACSM test and it just seems to be written in a much more understandable manner, even though I've heard the same comment about ACSM (that the exam and program are geared to those pursuing graduate degrees in related field).

    Default WITS Test

I've just registered for the WITS certification through our local CC. I'm doing the 5 Saturday thing then test on Sat #6. I'm curious from those of you that have done it this way, how much studying is really required? I work full-time (60+ hours/week) and I'm training 20 hours/week. Now I'm going to adjust everything so I can go to class all day Saturday. I'm intimidated by that and I'm not sure how I'm going to cram in all the studying. Is the test difficult? I'm a pretty smart person but it has been 15 years since I got my masters. What type of internship will be accepted? Does it have to be in a gym and/or is it more important that the person signing the documentation have the proper accredidation? My ABC boot camp instructor is NESTA certified and she was going to be my "mentor".

    Thanks in advance, yall.
