IME certifications shouldn't be the sole source of a trainer's knowledge-- rather i'd suggest that one think of certs as 'learners' permits'

ACE is a reasonable entry level cert that should get you employed at most clubs-- it's more of a 'this guy won't hurt you' cert than it is about provenance of a particular philosophy.

There are points where philosophies/ protocols of different cert bodies may conflict-- then what?

    which to choose?

the client won't know, so how do you evaluate?

as to licensure leading to salaries going up--i don't know that i agree, but regardless, that also means training fees go up which would discourage clients.

but there won't be a national licensure-- federal issues-- states get to set those rules.

having run a substantive program i'm always amazed when i see chains running trainers through their own in-house cert program w/o considering the liability chain

if the client gets hurt under the club cert [whether with or without national cert] then the club has more deeply involved itself in the suit-- particularly if the client was injured while observing club protocols.
Certified, Insured, Expereinced-- building better bodies since 1981

    Hello,

Certification course provides you a gateway to move forward but it hugely depend on your ability how you will use it, it is your personal skill that makes you a good trainer.

I would be interested in the differences to. I have the acsm fitness instructor cert. I don't think it would be fair to compare the two. I trained with Premier Training in London and one of my lecturers told us that the ACSM are extremely highly-regarded and the courses are tough...

    Default Penn Foster?

I am currently taking an online course through Penn Foster to be a Certified Personal Trainer. Once completed, I can then take the NCSF exam. But I havent read anything about that here. Does it stack up among other certifications? And what should I do to prepare? Is the online course enough?

    Default Qualifications for personal training

We are finding that Personal trainers seeking roles with LA Fitness, DW Sports or Fitness First are all required to have REPS level 3 (register of Excercise Profesionals) or the equivalent at the national standard.

We have a large selection of Leisure jobs in the UK and wordwide.

Have a look at the blackbook sports website for more information

Default taking test for the first time ..

    Hello All,

I am about to graduate with a bachelors degree in exercise science (in 11 days to be exact) and am looking in to becoming a CPT. For the past couple weeks, I have been set on the ACE exam but just recently I have been looking into ACSM and have now gotten myself completely confused. For a first timer, I am wondering what you all suggest? Start with ACE and look into ACSM in the future or start with ACSM?

    HELP!!!

    Thanks in advance,
    Sara
