Is anybody a trainer in a small town? Im looking into becoming one but im wondering if i will make money in the town i live in. Its a smaller town of mostly middle class ...but it does have a university or about 10-12thousand students. Would it be likely to make money here? Anyone live in an area like this thats a trainer?
From my experience, the term "broke college student" isn't just a stereotype. Yes, there are a few college students who have money from their parents-- but not enough to warrant building your whole business around. I'd suggest finding the closest big city or metropolis and market your business there. I live in an area that has 14 colleges nearby-- two of them huge universities. I'm very successful in my area and a very well known trainer, but college students rarely make up any percentage of my 1-on-1 training income.
What I would suggest, especially if you're limited to training in this town, is to offer a lower cost group training option. This way, you can give the college students a lower rate per person, but still make a good bit of money per hour. Train, say, six students for a one hour session at $15 each. That's $90 an hour for you. Not too shabby, eh?
Go out there, get great at your skill! Remember, you're THE FITNESS GUY in your town! Go out and make that money and show them why you're the best!
