    Default Length of Pt session

Hi from Australia...anyone have an opinion on 30 min vs 60 min pt sessions length? 30 min is more profitable but I wonder if I can give enough in this lenthg of session?
    Thanks :?

i've done both over the years and frankly i believe that a well conditioned client benefits more from the shorter session-- remember that >50 minutes of strenuous exercise becomes catabolic.

depending upon training modalities and client goals/ issues, i can run a fit client through 20-40 sets in 30-- then they take care of their cardio and stretch homework on their own.

if i have my druthers, the only cardio i watch my clients do is Tabata protocol-- and once we get them set up with the 'Sun Salutation' i don't do warm-ups either.

i also prefer to set up a stretch protocol.

all this assumes a motivated fit athlete/ client

the 60 minute sessions tend to be simply a slow 30 minute session with stretching

    just my experience

    Hi stewie65,

Who are your clients and what are their needs? How would THEY benefit from either a 30 minute w/o or a 60 minute w/o?

What are the pros and cons to your clients.

I STRONGLY suggest you view it from that perspective, rather than from how much money you can make. You can also consider doing group sessions, which definitely will help you make more/hour AND help gain more clients who would otherwise not consider it because of the cost.

To me the answer is clear, a Personal Trainer should be focusing on a clients needs and what would benefit them the most, you should be tailoring your session times to what they can afford, what you believe they can manage and the time they have.

Most of my clients will do a one hour session as I can insure a correct warm up and cool down.
A trainer that focuses on money more than an clients needs will end up with a bad reputation and fewer clients in the long run.

To be honest it is the client that shouldbe making the decsion and you are there to stear them on the correct path.
