California Trainer HELP
I am currently a Cal contractor, and I needed to have license and bonding for my audio/video business to be legal. So, what does a personal trainer need to be legal and protected? What do I file with the state to be say a (personal fitness contractor) per se? and what kind of write offs can you utilize for taxes? and most importantly can you write off your own training say from other specialty trainers such as MMA, speed training, dietician help, supplements etc..
Thanx, Im a newbie here and any info would be helpfull (This is a great site)can anyone explain the poll stuff at the bottom?

Hello Marcstewart.
First, Are you starting your own Professional Fitness Training business?
If so, you need a Business License and a "Seller's Permit". Go to your City's website. You most likely can download the application forms.
I am not an expert in taxes, but if you are running a business there are many tax deductions for home-based business owners and seminars are one of them, so will be a percentage of your rent or mortgage payment as well as clothing and fuel in the event the you perform your services in your Client's home and have to travel in order to get there.
Not required by law, but you Need to Have a Certification. There is tons of info on this site for you to go over. Also, Liability Insurance.
Good Luck, it's a pain to get all the requirements and red-tape out of the way, but very worth it!!!
