    Default Wii FIT! ARE YOU?!

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/diet....fit/index.html

    Video games for health?

Will the Non-gym going population get healthier?

    Thoughts?

I'm all for anything that gets people up and moving as well.

But there ought to be some sort of "Nutritional education" part of the game as well.

My fear is that "Mommy" will "reward" their kids for doing 30 minutes of Wii FIT with cookies and non-nutrious snacks, thus deleting any benefit the Wii FIT would have.

I remember at Can-Fit-Pro in 2006 there was an actual game where you strapped a sensor belt around your waist and jump around according to where a ball was on the video screen infront of you. Adjustments could be made for difficulty and speed. Wonder if it is the same idea? (That much movement)

    Dave,
That was the Cybex Trazer game. I had it at the YMCA I managed a few years ago. Very cool...but I think the Wii takes it a step further with better graphics.

I love the wii, the boxing is actually pretty vigorous if you really get into it.

I have an extremely over weight friend obsessed with video games- try as I might Ive never coaxed him to the gym or to do any form of physical activity- however wii fit has actually got him doing some exercise every day- hopefully this will lead to better things for him!

Has anyone thought of creating a "Curves" like training studio, outfitted only with Wii s? It might work especially for kids -

    Actually KaiserS,

When I interviewed with American Gladiators Fitness Center (Yes, after the TV Show American Gladiators) They said they were creating a "virtual gym" for the kids based on that technology. Not sure they had the Wii Fit in mind as it hadn't been announced yet. (November 2007) Now whether or not that has come to fruition I'm not sure. But the idea is out there.

Actually I think that would be a BETTER idea then having it at home as the "junk food factor" would be ever present at home but not at a virtual fitness center.

I like the idea of the fitness center for kids because a lot of kids who are really overweight lack social skills, plus, they would get the support they need from their peers.
