Default hi all - I been a trainer for 7 months now

    ...its been tough.

I operate out of a gym - paying them a flat rate of rent every week and all income earned from clients is all mine.

i been breaking even lately although overall am in the red

    im in the uk

I want to ask - what do you think people love about seeing you once per week? (or more?)

also what kind of results have you been getting with clients?

I have done my reps level 3 course
doing the premier pts now too
    also metabolic typing
    (on credit cards!)

I need to get 10-20 clients a week - am on 4 at the moment

its tough for me - i will prevail tho

this looks like a great forum and will enjoy sharing ideas, information and support

    Hey Ptrainer,

Is the gym doing anything for your personal training business other then allowing you to use their equipment/space?
Are you allowed to advertise in the gym?Put fliers up, put out your business card/pamphlet?
Are you allowed to access their list of members to invite them to a special seminar you are giving at the gym or a special offer on personal training?
Does your gym have a group exercise room or meeting room where you could give seminars to current gym members or use for "Group Training"?

Do you need 10 to 20 clients per week to be in the black or to support your lifestyle?

My clients love seeing my HOT Body each week. LOL Just kidding. It's all about education and personality. People want someone who can put them through a hard workout but also joke and be personable with.

Results are basically driven by how well the client adheres to your program, and you can only monitor the client so much before they make the committment to change their lifestyle.

Good luck, let us know if we can help out in any other way!!

    Hi

    thanks for the reply

    most things are yes
there is a pt board which we can put on a poster each - there are about 6-7 pt's in there too including me.

i have not done any seminars there yet - actually the manager mentioned it to me too as he was helping out

i think when i started i came across as low confidence.
4 clients a week to cover gym rent - 20 to be able to live an ok life

    now i am a small guy - 5ft6 - 127 pounds - athletic
    have had mostly female clients

I could probably talk more and work people harder
maybe my personality needs to come out more? improve it somehow?

I want to just blast the fat of my clients - seems to come off too slow tho.
a couple of them are vegetarian which I dont think helps.

    Hey ptrainer,

Don't let your stature be a barrier. One of the most knowledgeable people I know in this industry is an ex-powerlifter at (approx.) 5'7". He has his master's and CSCS credential and gives clinics for the NSCA. He's also a strength coach for a college football team so he trains some really big guys.

As far as confidence is concerned, ARE you confident? If not, why do you think that is? Is it because you are just starting out? (Most people are not automatically confident just because they get certified. It takes time and experience.)

PS - Curious about the vegetarian comment. Here are a couple of articles from the NSCA's Performance Training Journal that you might find interesting. This is a 2 part series. You will have to scroll through each journal in order to find each article.

If you have a question about personal training please post it on the forum instead of sending me an email or private message. Chances are your questions will help someone else. Thanks!
