I am currently reading a book called the Legal Aspects of Personal Fitness Training and on page 129 the author states that in Mississippi the word "trainer" is limited to individuals who are licensed as athletic trainers. A personal trainer living in Mississippi would need to use terms such as "personal fitness consultant" or "personal fitness professional" to describe their profession.
The book has a copyright of 1998 so unless things have changed over the years I assume that personal trainers living in this state are not allowed to call themselves "personal trainers." It's interesting that none of the organizations I have gotten certified through have stated this so I'm not really sure what the deal is.
