Pressor Response - The reflex caused by skeletal muscle contraction that is responsible for the rise in heart rate and blood pressure during resistance training. The pressor response causes the heart rate to elevate disproportionately to oxygen consumption. (This is the reason why a pounding heart during resistance training does not equate to an aerobic workout.)
