Default Is there such a thing as a golf cert for personal trainers?

And if there is, which organization? Or should should I just research various exercises and not even worry about a cert? Even an online continuing education class would be great. Golf is HUGE in this area.

    Hi Christina,

Yes, your right, golf is huge and it's huge in my area too. That's why I am sending out mailers to these areas. I'm letting all golfers know how Pilates classes or personal training in Pilates helps not only core and posture, but with the game of golf.
I hear so many people telling me that "Core" exercises helps, which is true, but I tell them that core is not only lower back, glutes, hips and abs, but from your head to your hips.

I'm throwing my hat off to golfers, or teeing off.. bad joke, long day.

    Take care
    Sandy

The best cert in my opinion is from Titlest - I think the website is mytpi.com. Dr. Greg Rose of on of the individuals who runs the program and puts on the golf fitness academy on the golf channel. I had a chance to see him at the Perform Better Summit this past weekend and he was a great presenter with a lot of info for trainers and training golfer. The biggest thing he suggested is one learn swing mechanics front and back, most trainers are screwing up more golfers currently then helping because they do not understand the biomechanics of the golf swing.

I know Paul Chek has some materials and a cert, but Dr. Greg Rose mentioned that the cover of his book shows an incorrect golf swing and turns off a lot of golfers.

I think pilates has some advantageous, but in my opinion is overrated for training the core, if you like the term core. It is never true core training unless you are standing, utilizing gravity, ground reaction forces and momentum. The foot starts everything and if you don't work the foot into core training - you can't call it core training. If yo don't address this, nothing you do elsewhere is going to work. I have seen quite a few people hurt in pilates classes during my years of training, that have used pilates exercises that have limited benefits and little carryover to life or golf. I am not trying to offend Pilates instructors, but it is the truth and there are times to use Pilates, but there are also much better ways to strengthen the core. Just know when to use what and why.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks guys!

I'm having problems opening the site www.mytpi.com. Can someone else try and let me know if it works? I can't tell if it's my internet connection or their site. Thanks!

rbd-- The Titleist website is working today. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. Thank you very much!

If anyone out there trains golfers Titleist has a section on their website called My TPI that shows a ton of exercises that can help improve your client's golf game. This section of their website is now FREE. (It looks like they used to charge $75/mo.) Check it out!

Sign up by clicking on My TPI.

A fantastic resource! I am definitely going to pursue this certification.
