Default Sandy/converting your garage into a studio

    Hi Sandy,

When we lived in Texas we had a 3 car garage. The cool thing was, 2 of the stalls were together and the third one was completely separate and at a different part of the house. We turned the single stall into a home gym. We had gym flooring installed and even had the area heated and air conditioned. It was really cool!

Do you have any covenants in your neighborhood that would prevent you from training people out of your home? Even if you do, I wouldn't imagine it would be a problem since you will have only one client at a time (most likely.) And having a good relationship with your neighbors always helps!

    Hi Christina,

I doubt we have any covenants that would prevent me from doing so. We have a 2 car garage so I know I would have plenty of room. The garage is already insulated and we have a window air unit installed so the flooring would be what I need. It is still in the thinking process now.
Our relationship with the neighbors are great, though one is moving, still should'nt be a problem.
I'm also back and forth with buying the equipment and yet at times thinking I could just do the Pilates. I'm now looking into getting certified with the "Reformer" but found that it may cost approx $3000.00 to get certified. I found a facility by me that may provide that but still waiting on information.

Sandy, Christina, or anyone who has a home studio.

I've been thinking about building a home studio too. What kind of legal stuff do I have to worry about? Do I need some kind of business license and want kind of liability insurance would I need?

I turned one of the spare bedroom into my homegym. I have a power rack with a bench, lots of dumbbells and weights, roman chair, bands, and swiss ball. What else would I need?

    Thanks.

    Hi Kevin,

We moved before I had the chance to train people out of my home. Talk to the people who you get your homeowners insurance through. This would probably be the best starting place. Our insurance guy told us what we needed to do but that was 3 years ago and I cannot remember what he said.
