Hi Sandy,
Ever since you posted this I have been more aware of my posture when running. It's always good to have reminders and it's funny how things stick with you when you hear them from someone else. Thanks.

Do you realize that most people at the gym who either work on treadmills, stair machines, or ellipticals are not using the correct technique.
Since I am a Certified Pilates Instructor I am all about using the "Core" and since most of us do not think about our Powerhouse (Muscles below the belt) they are not engaged.
The technique of many are straining and leaning over the side of the handles. Proper alignment is crucial and learning to visualize and concentrate more on working from the core and lengthening your stride would intensify your workout.
Keep your chest lifted throughout and spine straight. Rounding the back and bringing the shoulders forward only puts pressure on your vertebrae.
I instruct High Impact classes also, but may not always be able to do them as I get older. My knees are fine now, but you never know. With Pilates I know that I will always be able to get a good workout and continue to do so, until no longer.
