    Default good book for runners

I've read an awesome book called "Ultra Marathon Man" about ultra-elite athletes who run marathons consisting of over 100 miles, running through Death Valley, and also in below zero temperatures. Talk about obsessive!

However, it did inspire me to start running again. I never used to do more than 3-4 miles;just for some extra cardio. In less than 4 weeks I've increased my average about 9-10 miles, with my longest run last week being 2 1/2 hours (not sure how many miles).

I plan to run a 1/2 marathon in October, my first race ever!

    Default good book for runners

Is this the book about Dean Karnazes? If so, this guy is incredible. He is planning on running 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days in 50 states starting in mid-September. I ran cross country years and years ago and have always enjoyed running outdoors. I can't recall the last time I did any serious mileage but after seeing what this guy does it makes me wonder what my limits would be if I decided to get started again. I haven't read the book but is there a line in there about him ordering pizza that he has delivered to him during the middle of his late night runs?

In one of my classes this past quarter there was a lady who ran 20 miles every other day and on her "off" days she biked 20 miles!!! There was also another guy (Curtis, one of the forum members) who used to run 16 miles a day!!!

PS - Good luck on your upcoming half marathon!

    Default running

Yes, that is the book! He would call the pizza place and ask how long the order would take and he'd tell the guy at what intersection he'd be by then. He also mentions a period of a race that he thought he had shells in his shoes and it turned out to be his toenails that had fallen off! I think that's a bit too extreme for me.

The problem with running that many miles and that often is that it doesn't leave much time for anything else. And then there's the weather factor...I don't like being cold or wet (from rain), and 20 miles would be a very boring run on a treadmill! Besides, I don't think I've gone past 15 yet. I'm averaging 9 or 10, and have a ways to go.

    thanks for the input :!:
