Hi Everyone,

I am so glad to find this forum. I am a new CPT with a background in world and ballroom dance. I live in a small town (about 15000) and am one of only two personal trainers in my area. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do, the demogrqaphic I want to target etc. I currently am an executive director of a small non-profit, a group fitness instructor and the mother of a 1 yr old and a 3yr old. I am not quite sure where to fit in sessions, so I plan to start out slowly and see where it takes me. My goal has always been to open my own dance and fitness studio, but that will be a ways down the road. Right now I am just enjoying life and looking forward to seeing where this new part of my life will lead me.

With the popularity of dance contest TV shows, I would think that your dance classes would be booming!

For that matter, I'd charge what you charge for a one on one dance lesson as your personal training rates.

Let the other trainer take the cheapskates. You want the people with money! (Every town has them you just have to look, study, and refine your message to reach them).

I bet you could charge $40 a session and still get clients! But you have to know what you bring to the table (XX years of dance/ballroom training, certified personal trainer, etc.) See your USP is that you're also a dance instructor, what's that other trainers USP? That she's the cheapest in town? LOL Smile

Don't compete on price. Compete on quality and what makes you different.

If you haven't bought any Personal training Sales/Marketing Help materials I highly recommend Eric Ruth & Sean Greeley, as well as some of Phil Kaplan's and Jim Labadie's stuff. (NO I DON"T GET A KICKBACK FOR SAYING THAT, BUT I SURE WISH I WOULD!!!) Smile

Good Luck!

Dave

Thanks Dave! It sounds like you have some expereince under your belt. I like getting a different perspective. I will definately look into those materials you suggested. There is just a whole lot to getting started! I did sign up to do free body comp next month at a health fair, I hope to at least get my name out that way.
Thanks again!
