Working out with clients at their own gyms?
Hello All!
After a lot of thinking, I've decided to try my hand at becoming a personal trainer. I'll leave the details on myself via the other sections of the forum, but this post is specifically for finding out some other ways in which I can work privately with clients.
At my 24 Hour Fitness, I often see people with clipboards training other members. They are obviously not your resident 24Hour PTs, but brought in from the outside. I know this because I'm on speaking terms with many people from the gym and they gladly identify these outside trainers as "my personal trainer". Apart from the days I see them train their clients, I never see these outside PTs at that specific gym.
How do these setups usually work? I've heard of PTs doing training at the client's home, but say I as a trainer don't have access to Bally's, but my client, who I got to know via referral, works out there. Does the client take responsibility for my one-time entry fee every single time?
While I plan to start out at a big chain, my ultimate goal is to train people privately, by going to their homes, or working out with them at their gyms (since I see this happening). I would ideally like to charge lower prices since I do have a day job as a software engineer and primarily want to get into this business to just help people get healthier, so I think being independent and free of the extra charges that gyms put on top of what they pay PTs is the way to go.

Be careful
You will likely get Kicked out of what ever gym you are training your client at if you are not affiliated with said gym. If you have a membership and they suspect you of training clients in "their" gym they probably could suspend or revoke your membership.
Words of warning. I would look out for this cause you don't want any trouble at a place you frequent, know what I mean.
