    Post Powerful Fitness Copy Tips

    Hey there!

My name's David Tendrich, and I'm a professional copywriter, and I've written a LOT of high-converting fitness copy.

    So...

I thought I'd help you get a nice head start on what it takes to produce fitness copy that really sells. I've seen copy bring in 15, even 30 clients or more to PTs and boot camps in very little time, and here's how I produced that copy.

    1. Narrow down that target market!

One of the reasons why most ads... websites... post cards... etc., etc., etc. fails is they try to appeal to too big of an audience.

However, if you pick one target market, and you go after that target market with the same intent and energy... you can literally double and triple your results.

If you're unsure of how to determine your ideal target market, here's a good starting point...

    - Who are your favorite clients?
    - What makes them your favorite?
    - What do they all have in common?
    - What age group are they?
    - What gender?
    - What income level?
    - What's their personality like?
    - What makes them unique from other individuals?

Answer these questions and you should have a good start on finding your ideal target market.

    2. Research: The underestimated money maker

I can tell you from experience, that writing successful copy is 95% research... and 5% writing.

    Crazy, huh?

    Here's why...

I spend 95% of my time determining the target market - and then researching them inside and out. I talk to them on the phone and learn in their own words why they want to lose weight. I ask about their goals for fitness, and in life. I get a feel for their personalities. I see what vocabulary they use around weight loss.

And I dig deep. I find out the reasons UNDER the reasons they say about why they want to lose weight.

Once I get into those reasons - I know I have what I need to write killer copy.

    3. Absorption

The third step in writing killer fitness copy is to simply relax, and let all that research soak in. Don't even think about it too much! If it comes to your mind - don't resist it - but don't go out of your way to reflect on it.

Your mind will process it, break it down, and pick out the "golden nuggets" effortlessly. Just let this process happen. The more you try to "force it" or interfere, the harder writing the copy will be.

    4. Let it flow...

Now, the research has been absorbed and processed... you know your target market inside and out... it's time to let it flow.

Get in a comfy environment. Lock yourself in a room, or let your friends and family know you're in a no talk zone. Then, just let the ideas flow.

Write that headline... Write those bullet points... Connect to your reader... Put that research to good use.

Follow these 4 steps and you'll be well on your way to boosting your business like crazy in no time. I've seen businesses double and quadruple from nothing other than replacing their old copy, with new, killer copy.

Or... you can outsource all of this. And if you do - you now know what goes into killer copy. If the copywriter you're looking at DOESN'T go through an extensive process like the one above... they're probably not so hot.

Good copywriters are thorough, and precise. It's not guesswork. It's art and it's science. The science is in the research. The art is in how you put it all together.

    Best of luck,
    David

    Hi David,

Thanks for providing these great tips on copy writing for fitness professionals here on the Forum. Being a communications professional-turned-fitness coach, I've certainly witnessed the need for primers in Effective Writing 101. In fact, they used to say at my old corporate gig that business people lack writing skills and communications people lack business skills In any case, I was intrigued by what you offered and clicked on the link to your Web site. You definitely make a compelling case to hire you and your partner to get results.

As one of the moderators on the Forum, I did want to offer some feedback on the nature of your post. I totally get what you're trying to do by providing value up front so prospects have a feel for how you work and what you can do for them. I am on board with that all the way, don't get me wrong. However, since this is a discussion board and our goal is to drive traffic and frequent visits to this Web site, I would suggest trying to engage in more of a dialogue with our members. Instead of inviting feedback here on the Forum, you promote your Web site, which makes it appear like an advertorial and if I can go out on a limb here, I don't think you want your post to come off that way. Plus, it is walking a fine line when it comes to Christina's (the founder of the Forum) tips on promoting your product or service. http://www.fitnessthinktank.com/foru....html#post1722

I know you just posted your tips, so it will be interesting to see what kind of feedback you get.

Good luck with your business and we hope to see you around the Forum in the near future.

    Hey Dinah,

Thanks a ton for your feedback. I didn't even think about that. I guess I'm used to people being a bit shy and seeking 1-on-1 advice rather than posting in a public space.

I'll remember that for next time!

Okay so if you read the above post, and now this one, let me rephrase!

If you have any questions - please feel free to write them here! I'll probably check this forum every couple days or so. If you want sooner answers - email me!

    (Is this better? )

    Thanks again,
    David
