Default Has anyone ever taken a personal training business course?

Have you guys heard of this course http://www.personaltrainerbusinesscoach.com

I just downloaded the free report and signed up for the waiting list and was wondering if anyone had taken it before?

They offer a 3-month course that covers marketing, cancellation policies, management and other business stuff specifically for personal trainers.

    Just curious---

    Caveat Emptor my friend.

I quickly scanned the page but didn't see the one selling point that would make me buy it.

A REAL PERSONS NAME OR PHOTO.

Who's the so-called "Author" of this course?

That would be my first red flag.

2nd, No testimonials. If it's such a great course, where are the quotes of people raving about it?!?

Sorry, I'm not one to give my money to a faceless name.

The Personal training marketing and business products I have tried, and recommend with NO hesitation are from:

    Eric Ruth and Sean Greely
    Phil Kaplan.

A common poster on here also has a book, which I have yet to read, but she shares enough on here that I know she knows her stuff. And that would be Marjorie Geiser, R.D and her "Just Jump" book.

Again, I caution giving money to a faceless name who's supposedily an expert in the personal training business field.

    My 2 cents.

Grin; first, thanks Dave! We should talk, huh?

Second, yea, Jim, I just looked at the site, too, and didn't find ANY name at all! Who sells this and what value can they provide to me? It says that the first module will walk you through how to set up an LLC (it doesn't say that in LAY language, but that's what it means). Does that mean they have an attorney on board, to 'help' you with that? (which means more $$) I don't agree that I know what the best business structure is for you! Plus, setting up LLCs have different implications in different states (not to mention what if you don't live in the US?).

Module 2 is apparently going to help you set up bootcamp sessions, etc. So, they're basically telling you (again - sigh, I hear this all the time), "do it this way". Probably because the author has done it "that way". How does that really help YOU? Yes, bootcamps are hot, but are they the best choice for YOU?

And Module 3... well, Module 3 sounds like it's incorporating (finally - should be FIRST thing) helping the participant learn how to identify who they are, who their ideal clients are and how to convey the value they will provide to their clients.

I guess you could be the FIRST, and spend $397 and let us know!

Now, with all that NEGATIVE energy around this, what you've done as a first step is excellent. You first need to subscribe to what this person has to offer in order to get to know him/her. THEN you can make an informed decision.

Meanwhile, DO spend time on my site for my book! Grin; it's a LOT cheaper, too, and I DO promise that, if you go through all the exercises, you will accomplish ALL that this website promises, and more. And I will also say that my book is not available on Fitness Thinktank by random chance; it was adequately reviewed and endorsed. It is also available from IDEA, from PTOntheNET, and even from Amazon.

I DO want to say congratulations on taking the first step towards building your business! I do agree with this site: You ARE a business owner first, and personal trainer second. Those who take this to heart are those who become successful.

    Jim,

There are several different business coaching and training programs for personal trainers out there. There are also a lot of "products" on the market that show you how to market and promote your business, you've really just have to follow a few of the different sites for awhile, decide who really gives you information that works for YOU, and then start with them. As a chiropractor, in my profession there are a several different practice management and business coaches, I had to go with the company that I meshed with the best. Also, you can have several different business coaches, the more training you get in running a business the better. I've got 3 different business coaches, and I'm involved with 1 mastermind coaching group, and all it really helps me grow as a business owner and marketer. Everyone, if they're going to be in the fitness business for any amount of time, needs help with running a business, it's definitely not something we're born with.

I can't agree more with what James had to say. Not all coaching programs cost you an arm and a leg, and also not all coaching programs are for you. But, as fitness professionals, we are NOT trained in business!

I got involved in business only AFTER having a successful personal training business for a number of years. When I started to look at how coaching could help my clients, and then other professionals started coming to me for business coaching, I then decided to go back to school to get a business degree.

So, today, in my coaching, and in all of my programs and books and ebooks, although I SHARE what worked for me, I don't say this is how ANYONE else should move forward. Every single personal trainer who wants to start or grow a business needs to do their own analysis. But they need to know HOW! And that's where a business coach comes in, period.

I loved what James had to say, which leads me to invite you to my Facebook Fan page, http://facebook.com/meg.enterprises. I also have a free report on how to set your business up from my home page, http://www.meg-enterprises.com, and also invite anyone interested to check out my very affordable membership program at
    http://www.meg-enterprises.com/megen...ership-program.

Regardless, get out there and learn about business! It does NOT have to cost you a great deal! People think they'll miss out on something if they don't spend more than they're comfortable with. Although I have some programs that are more expensive, I have a greater goal to help people achieve THEIR goals! And since I don't have to be the one doing it all, I can help achieve MY goal, which is to empower health and fitness professionals along the way.
