Default Independent contractor training in various gyms

    Hi,

I am new to this forum and have a business question. I want to be an independent contractor. There are two gyms in the small town I live in, one is a community gym and the other belongs to a univeristy, but they do sell community passes. I don't know the rules or protocol for training in multiple gyms. Do I need to make up some sort of contract with the gym? Do I give them a percent of my fees for each session? Is it even an issue if my client and I both have a membership to the gym adn the client signs my legal documents? Thanks for answering this newbies questions.

    Hey Olivia, Liv,Livy

First of all, most gyms will have a contract for you to sign if they allow independent trainers at their gym. My advice to you is to NOT SIGN IT until you look it over and make sure you agree with all the terms and conditions. (It shouldn't be that long, maybe 2 pages).

    2) The Split. Gyms are doing it various different ways these days but here's what you can expect:

    3) Typically either your client will have to join the gym, or you will have to pay the gym a "User Fee" for each client you bring through there, or they may just charge you a monthly fee and not care how many clients you bring through. Again make sure you know the deal before you sign or agree to anything!

    Hope that helped,

I don't know where you live, but you should think of training outside of the gym setting as well -

It sounds like you're getting your clients on your own -

In that case did you consider training them outdoors, or being an on-location specialist?

You can take what's a weakness and make it a strength -

If you're able to instill credibility through your marketing and knowledge, they won't question it at all -
