Default Single Sex Fitness Clubs - Article in Fitness Business Pro

Okay, I've just finished reading the cover article on this month's Club Industry Fitness Business Pro magazine.

It's about a guy who sued a "Women's Only" club in California because he was a man and unable to join. It's obvious from the article that this guy was just looking to sue someone and make some money, but what's shameful is that the club owner he sued had to go out of business.

I think it is ridiculous that we can have "Women Only" clubs but for some reason cannot have "Men Only" fitness clubs.

    Your thoughts?

LOL!!! Actually this is funny but not because of the topic. I put the word sex on the forum's list of banned words because I was afraid of offensive spam getting posted by spambots (programs that crawl the web and post spam on forums). Anyway, this morning I added sex as a banned word thinking, "Who on here is going to use that word beside spambots?" Well, now we know WHO! By the way, the word has now been unbanned.

Oh, and my 2 cents on the topic...

I think men should absolutely have "men only" clubs. In fact, there is a club here in my hometown that is called Revolutions 30 Minute Workout for Men and I believe it is a gym similar to Curves. (However, I think they accept women as well.) I don't see a thing wrong with all male gyms. Start a franchise!

Maybe I should have titled it Gender Specific Clubs! LOL

I think that the arguement "Women are Uncomfortable workign out with men" or "Co-ed Gyms subject women to an increased rate of sexual harrassment" are probably true.

But women also are very distracting in co-ed clubs. Wearing tight fitting clothes, talking on their cell phone, having big hair (LOL ), Lifting more weight than some guys. So that's why I support Men Only Fitness Clubs!

But seriously(not really), as a male personal trainer, I probably could sue women-only clubs because they don't hire male personal trainers and that is discriminatory and affects my ability to get a job. (There are 7 Curves within 10 miles of my town, and only 3 "Co-ed" gyms.) So there you go!

I guess in this day and age with so many "Women Only" clubs, Men only clubs probalby will be on the rise.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

I have worked at a Ladies Only facitlity for 9 years. This topic comes up all the time with my members. I always tell them I would have to let a man join if he really pursued it but they would have to make him feel really uncomfortable if they did not want him there working out with them. Thank goodness this never came up! However many times over the years ladies have said they wish there was somewhere for their husbands to go besides the Y or Gold's beacuse they did not feel comfortable going there either. FYI if you really are interested Cuts For Men is a circuit franchise similar to a Contours or Curves only for men. :P
    Inspire others to be great!
