    Default What's Your Confidence Level?

Here's a piece I wrote for subscribers of The Underground Newsletter (http://super-trainer.com/underground-newsletter):

CONFIDENCE - the subject is basic, essential, and beaten to death, but let's take
a look at it for a second -

It's an essential part to being a trainer - because God knows IT'S NOT your cert,
degree, or actual training knowledge that MAKES you as a trainer -

If that were the case, Jackie Warner would be training at the YMCA, and my buddy
Doug Groce who helps me with Super-Trainer sometimes would be driving her
    BMW -

So let me make a little example here:

You ever notice how many olympic athletes work for the Post Office or UPS or
Home Depot or something like that?

Why don't they become trainers? If they have to work a low-motivation job for not
much more than minimum wage, why don't they market themselves better and get
    some private clients?

Do you think it would be hard for an Olympian to get the dozen or so clients it takes
to be a high earning Personal Trainer? I don't think so -

It comes down to CONFIDENCE - to having the belief to put yourself out there.
To believe that you have something to offer and that people should pay you real
    money for it -

    That's what makes a trainer -

With Personal Training more so than any other health profession, service, or field of
consulting, the PERSON is the PRODUCT -

The customer is buying YOU -

So you can't be afraid to stand out in front - you have to have your face on you
cards and website, not hide behind a corporate name you thought up -

You have to invest in yourself as a person - to live your values, and to pursue them
    with passion -

You have to package yourself effectively - pay attention to how you look, act, and
how you're perceived - that doesn't mean kissing ass - it just means think about how
you're coming cross, and make sure it's a positive image that people want to be
around and spend time with -

Most people haven't been taught this - from the time we're kids we're taught to do
what other people tell us -

    - we're taught to try to fit in and not stand out
    - we're taught that you should go for substance and not style
    - that if you're confident and stand-up for yourself people won't like you

But the people that stand-out, that have the flair, and that believe in themselves and
believe they deserve more or the ones that get everything in our society -

Everything - the money, sex, attention - EVERYTHING -

That's the little "secret" no one's telling you - you've got to figure it our for yourself -

So in our little petrie dish of Personal Training - in this amazing life experiment of
leadership, mentorship, excellence, self-direction, freedom, and responsibility, here's
    what that means -

That you've got have confidence in YOURSELF - in YOU -

That you are a separate, unique person, that doesn't think like the masses - that
doesn't have to follow their rules - that has value on the inside just for the fact that
you're alive, and that you deserve whatever you're intent on working for -

Once you make that distinction, it's really a liberating feeling - closest thing to being
born again I've ever felt -

This job is fun isn't it?

Thanks for reading and you'll be hearing from me soon -

Thats a great article. I agree with the confidence piece, I really think that has a lot to do with it. It takes endurance and purseverance to get through the initial stages of being in business for yourself and that courage builds just by putting one foot in front of the other.

Also I think that your comment on doing it for more than the money is important. When I first started my business I was thinking about becoming rich. I still think about that, and its still the goal, but that isn't what got me through the hard times. Thinking about the fact that this was the only way that I could see my future being secure, and making sure that my fiance was taken care, and thinking about the difference that I could make in the lives of my family was what really kept me going.

    Thanks
