Default What not to study and spotting technique

    Hey fellow trainers!

After reading the threads here I had some questions.

I read previously that there was a certain point in the text that when studying for the CPT exam, we do not need to know this as its out of our scope. Can someone please inform me what section this is?

Also regarding spotting technique, I was told that when you attend the workshop you get a sheet that lists this. Does anyone have a copy available? or can recommend an appropriate book or website which would be suitable. ( I would have love to go to the workshop, but I reside in Canada where its not available)

    Hi Dre,

Everything that's in the text (I'm going to assume you mean the main textbook "Resources for the Personal Trainer") is fair game for the test. There are lots of tips on the forum to direct you to sections that you should emphasize MORE when studying.

One of the best ways to determine what's in / out of scope is to follow the KSAs (listed in the textbook). They'll help you narrow down what you should be focusing on.

As far as the spotting techniques, I would grab a NSCA book (not sure which one), but my friend said it had a very solid list that helped him study for the test.

    Good luck!

Thanks Dinah! I'll look around here more thoroughly and check out those NSCA books. Still haven't touched the text book yet, still going through the exercise testing and prescription book. Was planning plowing through that then heading over to the PT resource book
