One of my absolute favorites! Glad you like it, Jeff.

    Shaq,

I believe someone just mentioned (possibly Christina) on another thread that you can find out what the new changes are to the 3rd edition of the Personal Trainer Resource book on ACSM's website. If this is the case, you can still use the book you have now.

I only strongly recommend this book here because of the incredible online (interactive) study guide that comes with it. The two books are very similar in terms of content but not necessarily identical.

My two majors in college had nothing to do with health science, hence it I need to build a stronger foundation. This is why this online interactive study guide is so valuable to me.

    Shaq,

While I consider the interactive online study guide the most valuable thing I have found in helping me to build a firm foundation in exercise physiology & prescription programming which are biggest parts of the ACSM CPT exam, I am now using both the KSA's and my study guide given to me at the ACSM 3 day workshop to guide me in what I need to know most from this interactive online study guide.

By the way, my second attendance of this workshop was much better. It was a great experience!

    Thanks,

    Jeff

P.S. I do not recommend attending this workshop twice. I had a family emergency during my first workshop that caused me to miss almost an entire day at the last 3 day workshop I had attended.

I urge anyone who is studying to take an exam to get certified as a fitness trainer to take Christina’s advice about getting a copy of the book Physiology of Sport and Exercise either by purchasing it or trying to borrow it from a library.

I personally purchased it online through Barnes and Noble. My opinion is that it is superior in layout and design than the ACSM’s Resources for the Personal Trainer, but its real value to me has been the interactive online study guide for this book that you get for free if you purchase the book new (about $80). You can also purchase the online study guide alone for about $30.

Anyway, this online study guide is absolutely amazing increasing the value of my studying by at least 100 fold. Each chapter has online quizzes at the end, but each chapter itself is designed for the sole purpose of interactive learning; hence, even without the quizzes it’s like getting 50 to 100 quiz questions per chapter to make certain that you know the material.

I was able to memorize all (or at least most) of the structures of the heart in a matter of minutes, and I have up to a year of continuous review of all the material of the book. I make a study flash card for each question in the interactive study guide, and have estimated that I will have more than 1,000 study flash cards when I am done. By the way, I make flash cards by taking 3 by 5 inch index card, and then cutting them into 4 rectangles about 1 by 2 and ½ inches long.

I have spent way too much money preparing for the ACSM CPT exam, and this is by far the best purchase I have so far made.

Thanks! Sounds like a book worthy to add to my collection
