Default Totally new and hoping for a little advice

    Hey Guys,

So as you can tell, I'm brand new to the forum and hoping some of the pros can point me in the right direction. I'm finally taking some action to get away from my miserable 7-6 desk job after playing with the idea of getting into personal training for over a year now. After reviewing the certifications, I've come up with the ACSM seeming tpo be the best match. The study material are a little overwhelming and kind of leaving me wondering where to start. Do I read the ACSM's Resources for the Personal Trainer text book cover to cover? Take the weekend course? Or the online training? How long should I prep before I even think about taking the exam? Way too many questions...... I'd llike to think I have a pretty good knowledge of health and training but I'm sure I'm gonna find out real quick that I have a lot to learn. So if anyone is interested in throwing a few pointers in a total beginner's direction, it'd be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hey C,

First of all welcome to the forums. I'm also brand spanking new to forums and I've read some fantastic material so far from other PT enthusiast. Way to go on taking action and getting away from what you really do not see your self doing in the future. I myself have done the same recently receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, and starting on my study's for ACSM-CPT.

It's going to be very hard and frustrating at time's with studying at home, but if you want it bad enough anything is possible right? As far as what to study I couldn't really point you in the right direction because everybody is different, I'm going to do it strictly at home study hard and take the practice test once a month for 4 months, then take the actual Exam and you know what If I don't pass it I'm not going to let it get me down I'm gonna study some more cause I've already put so much time and effort into what I really want to do. I mean shoot you already have all the material why not hit the exam up again.

Glad to see beginners out there like myself good look.
