Default Recommended Study Materials For ACSM-CPT Certification

    Hi-

I will be purchasing the study materials for the ACSM-CPT Certification soon, and I just wanted to get a consensus on the books that I should purchase. The following are the books that ACSM recommends:

    (1) ACSM’s Certification Review, 3rd edition
    (2) ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 8th edition
    (3) ACSM’s Resources for the Personal Trainer, 2nd edition

From this website, I see that others have recommended the following in addition to the three above:
    (4) Resource Manual for Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 6th edition

Is this an overwhelming consensus to purchase this "optional" book? Are there other books that should be considered?

I do not have a degree in Exercise or Health.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

It has been 2 years since I have taken the exam so I do not know if it is same one. Make sure that you study anatomy. Go here: http://www.fitnessthinktank.com/foru...ers-vt598.html and look for anatomy and physiology links to websites. You need to know more than just the names of muscles and bones. Know which planes of movements exercises are performed in, etc. Don't kill yourself learning it, but have a basic understanding.

Default Do you need a study partner?

    Hi,
I am a ACE CPT ( I took the exam 4 months ago) I am going for the ACSM Health and Fitness Specialist and it seems that the study materials are the same as the ones for the PT. We could share 1 hour here and there to go through the ACSM’s Certification Review, 3rd edition
or through some topics of the ACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 8th edition
Let me know if this works for you
