Default Introduction + Studying for ACSM

    Hello All
I am currently studying for the ACSM cPT test and will be taking it sept 24th. I thought I'd introduce myself first before any questions I have may arise. Here is a little about me:
I have a B.A. in Sociology from Ohio University
I completed a fitness instruter training class and recieved OU's personal trainer certification.
I am the head 7th grade football coach in my hometown
I have also completed an Exercise Testing and Prescription course based on ACSM guidelines at OU
...and now I'm studying for the ACSM!! If I can help anyone I will!! Any questions please ask!!!

    Thanks!!!

Hi and welcome! It sounds like you are going to do great on the ACSM-CPT.

I grew up in Parkersburg. Do you still live in the Athens area?

Small world! Parkersburg has a couple of gyms but I don't think you could really make any money there. They have a couple of Ys, Anytime Fitness, and an Apex Fitness for Women. You would definitely be better off going to Cinci or Columbus. I don't think there is much demand for personal trainers in that area. I could be wrong, though.

Be sure to let us know if you have any questions about the ACSM-CPT exam. It sounds like you are already well prepared.

Yeah I didn't figure there was a lot going on in the job market there. Right now it looks like Cincinnati may be the place to go....gotta go wherever the money is.

Thanks for the encouragement for the test I hope all goes well. So far the reading has been mostly review for me. I would take the test much sooner but I needed to get my CPR updated and that class isn't until sept 20.

So for now I'm taking as much info in as possible - And this home that your have created looks like a great place to do just that!

    Hi! Welcome to the board

I really don't have too much advice to offer except to take as much notes as possible. 3 pens have ran out of ink on me while taking notes. I have been taking an insane amount of notes because that's how I retain information. Do what works for you.

I currently live in the DC/MD metro area and the demand for personal trainers here is crazy and the pay is a lot which I was not aware of until recently. I'm in this because it's something I truly love but when a friend of a friend who works for Ballys in the MD/Washington DC area told me how much she makes, my jaw dropped.

My fiance is currently finishing college in Ohio and I will be relocating next summer after we get married and we both have our eyes set on Columbus since the job market there is good from what I have heard and researched. Remember, gyms are not the only places of work for personal trainers. I have seen hirings for schools who specifically require ACSM certifications

    Good luck on your exam!
