ACSM-HFI need associate's degree in a health-related field? - Personal Trainer Community - Forum

I am a korean.
and I am planing to go to USA to take ACSM-CPT.
As ACSM's resource guide said, ACSM -CPT's requirements are
1.must be over 18 years old
2.must have CPR
that's all
but as far as ACSM's HFI concerned, candidate must have associate's degree in a health related field.

I have a bachelor's degree but it's not in a health related field.
Am i not eligible to take ACSM's HFI??
is there any one who pass ACSM's HFI without a degree in a health related field??

compared to other certification such NSCA-CSCS, and ACE-advanced health&fitness specialist , they don't required candidates to have degree in a health related field if candidates have NSCA-CPT or ACE-CPT.

what I want to know is if i pass ACE-CPT, am I eligible to take ACE-HFI??
or should I have a degree in a health related field??

What was your degree in? Did you take many science classes?

Are you sure you need to come to the US to take the ACSM-CPT exam? I believe they offer it internationally. (I could be wrong though.)

PS - You do not need to take the NSCA-CPT exam in order to take the CSCS. The main requirement for the CSCS is a bachelors degree in any field. Also, passing the ACSM-CPT does not automatically allow you to take the HFI.

anyway
I got NSCA-CPT in korea this year. it was first time took place in korea.
and I luckily passed^^
the exam was translated into korean.
and after passing NSCA-CPT I wanted to study more.
as you know there are lots of personal training cerfification in the world.
but there is no internationally cerfified certification.
but I think American's personal training certification can replace international certification.
that's why I am interested in cerfifications such as NSCA-CSCS, ACSM-CPT as well as ACE-CPT. They are all accredited by NCCA.

next week I am going to Vancouver. I will study for cerfification cscs, acsm-cpt and ace-cpt there.
and after 4~5 months's study I am visisting Seattle to take exam on the CBT.
So my plan is while I stay in Vancouver, I tried to take exam as many as i can.
I hope my plan will work..

and my major is Chinese language and literature^^.
very unrelated with health field^^
but I have been working as a personal trainer in korea (Bally total fitness club) for 5 years..

Wow! I think you will have more certifications than anyone on here so far! Most personal trainers in the US have one or two certifications. Do personal trainers in Korea normally get many certifications?

If you really want to take the ACSM-HFI you could email ACSM and ask them if they will make an exception for you. If not, you will have to take classes at a university and get an associate's degree in a health related field. Perhaps you could ask ACSM if you could take science classes only. Maybe this will be good enough since you already have a degree. I am not sure.

I used to live in Seattle and visited Vancouver many times. You will love it there!

do you happen to know what the associate's degree mean??
Actually I took several courses regarding exercise science when I went to university.
to be more specific,
I took physical education, nutrition and health, sports nutrition, weight control and nurtitional management and social physical education management courses on my university days
has this something to do with an associate's degree??
I know I should ask ACSM about this first!!
but I've emaild them about this more than 3 times so far!!
but they don't get me back....
I know I could've called them and asked about this...
but I am afraid I could clearly understand what they are saying to me ..
My english gets poor especially on the phone;;

In the letter include your degree, any classes you have taken regarding fitness and nutrition, your work experience, any certifications you may have, etc. When you are done email it to me and I will make sure that you have everything you need to state your case. I will also make sure that you are using the proper email address. (The ACSM has many email addresses.) How does this sound?

1. physical education,
2. nutrition and health,
3. sports nutrition, weight control and nurtitional management
4. social physical education management courses
5. sports psychology

My degrees is Bachelor of Arts
(I majored in Chinese Language)

Did you take any science courses when you were getting your bachelors degree? If so, please list those in the email you send me. (You do not have to repeat the information you posted. I will copy it from this thread.)

I cannot promise they will make an exception but we will try. Perhaps we should write them AFTER you pass the ACSM-CPT. I think it will make a stronger case.
